'Creative Insight' is a short film for my final year at De Montfort University. This is a visual interpreted project that covers the concept of struggles and embracement as an artist.
Synopsis
An artistic teenager is struggling with emotional outbursts. Whilst drawing, a domestic dispute triggers a breakdown. In an attempt to cope, they start to art vent. Suddenly. the art attacks and drags the teenager into a black, abstract reality.
The Void feeds on the teenager’s struggles and envisions the pain tenfold. Silhouettes wearing white masks of many emotions appear to mock, harass and tease. A living nightmare of sounds and pain. Being backed into a corner, the protagonist slaps a masked abstract - silencing everything but the ‘Void’ sees. In shame, they put on a fallen white mask and accept being trapped.
Suddenly, a warm light appears and comforts them: the elf sorceress from the teenager’s drawings. Other creations emerge - a skeleton dragon, a cyber robot and an anthropomorphic harpy. Each of them symbolises an aspect of the protagonist’s creativity and struggles. They share it using the ‘Void’ as a canvas, both the pain and the overcoming. The story ends with the teenager relaxing under a tree with one of their creations, at peace with their internal turmoil.
